August bank holiday

Why the turtle crossed the pond.

Welcome to the Sweet Spot

The Friday edition.

This is the beginning of the long August bank holiday weekend.

That extra day of freedom.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Let's give you a little low down on the goings on around the city and county.

Here are our best picks to help you enjoy the last of the summer bank holidays.

We have the Cork Pride festival hitting its climax.

I'm sure if you're going, you already know what you're doing.

With Bambi Thug hitting the main stage.

But if not, we have some other alternatives for you.

Cork has a grand representation of aspiring artists.

This year is no different.

With the constant attendance of people in the Crawford Art School.

Their end-of-year gallery is in full force at Emerge.

The gallery will be showcased in all its glory for everyone to fawn over.

If you are near, you can visit and even see the original works of Ireland's next top artists.

Looking for a blast from the past.

Well, we have just the thing for you…

Youghal is hosting the annual event.

it is none other than the Youghal Medieval Festival.

From mock battles to ye ole role-playing games.

It will be well worth the visit starting at 11 am on Sunday, the 4th of August.

What's more, it is absolutely free for everyone.

So what are you waiting for?

I’ll leave the details below.

Finally, we are going to something a bit different and something a bit closer to the Irish traditions that are so close to our hearts.

We all have the music in our bones.

Come down to the lough for the ceili cois locha.

The music flowing, the crowd gathered, and the environment vibrant.

What more can you ask for…

Numerous fantastic musicians from the community gather to put on a show.

Weather permitting, it is Ireland, after all.

It starts every Wednesday throughout the summer from 730 to 9.

While there, you can always check out the new species starting to reside in the lough.

Invasive turtle species in the lough.

Owners around the place have left these behind.

They have also taken up residence in the Atlantic Pond.

Maybe you will be lucky enough to see some on your travels.

Anyway, that’s all we have this week.

Enjoy your long weekend.

Stay Sweet
